Marengo is a top-rated public elementary school in California.
Marengo is a 2023 California Distinguished School recipient. In 2020, the U.S. Secretary of Education recognized 367 schools, including Marengo Elementary in South Pasadena, as National Blue Ribbon Schools.
The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.
Marengo's mission is to support self-directed and lifelong learners as they grow into resourceful and productive citizens. Marengo offers the district's only Mandarin Dual Immersion program.
Why we give
State funding is not enough
The Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF), passed in 2013–14 and fully implemented in 2018–19, gives districts additional funding based on their share of high-need students (low-income, English Learner, and/or foster youth).
We need to help fill the gap
About 10% of the district’s total operating budget comes from local funding sources such as volunteer organizations – the South Pasadena Educational Foundation, PTAs, and booster clubs

The Marengo PTA supports our teachers! Your Wish Night donations will directly support your child’s classroom for the current school year including supplies and field trips.
