The PTA provides many extra programs for our school and support for our teachers and staff. Below are descriptions of each event. Several events throughout theyear raise funds for our school. These events depend on volunteers. Volunteering can be as little a a few minutes to as much as a whole day. There are many opportunities that fit ANY schedule and multiple levels of involvement.

Back to School/ Wish Night
Thursday, August 24th. Find out about the coming years curriculum, sign up for volunteer opportunities, and contribute directly to valuable resources needed in your child’s classroom.
Saturday, September 23rd. Enjoy great food, drinks, dancing, a silent auction and games of chance while you meet new parents and reconnect with old friends.
Kick off Wednesday, September 27th. Pledges are collected to earn money on a per-minute or flat-rate basis. Students will read and track their minutes on a reading calendar. October 1-31st.
FALL FAMILY PUMPKIN FESTIVAL AND MOVIE NIGHT
Friday, October 20th. A pumpkin Patch supporting 5th Grade promotion will open at 1pm. Everyone is welcome to purchase pumpkins & make fall crafts. You are welcome to bring a picnic dinner. Once the sun goes down, stay and to pull up a chair and watch a free movie under the stars. Marengo PTA will be selling popcorn and beverages.
RED RIBBON WEEK
October 23rd – 27th. Students take part in daily activities that teach and promote healthy lifestyle choices.
Book Character Parade
Friday, October 31st. Students and teachers come dressed as their favorite character from a book and parade around the school. This is a great culmination to our annual Read-a-thon.
Celebrate the Arts Day
Sunday, November 4th. A showcase of creativity as a process where critical thinking, exploration, collaboration and experimentation are encouraged and exercised. The whole family is encouraged to participate.
Fall Book Fair
November 27th – December 1st. Family Night Tuesday, December 28th at 6:00pm. Stop by during Parent/Teacher Conferences and support Marengo by purchasing books for your classroom, home or the school library.
December 7th. For a nominal fee, students have the opportunity to make holiday gifts for family and friends in this afterschool workshop.
Thursday, December 21st. Kinder – 5th grade performances.
Super ScienCE Night
Thursday, February 1st. See displays and participate in hands-on science experiments in the auditorium. You can also participate in ticketed (free) presentations in various classrooms throughout the night. Science is cool at Marengo!
Saturday, February 24th. In our annual showcase, students perform a wide variety of talents for family and friends.
Friday, March 9th. Pledges are collected to earn money on a per-lap or flat-rate basis. Come and cheer on your Marengo Lions as they run/jog/walk to raise money for Marengo.
Spring Book Fair
March 19th – 23rd. Family Night Tuesday, March 20th at 6:00pm. Stop by during Parent/Teacher Conferences and support Marengo by purchasing books for your classroom, home or the school library.
Teacher / STAFF Appreciation Week
April 23rd – 27th. This week gives students and families a chance to show their appreciation for the teachers and staff at Marengo. Room parents will give details at a later date.
All City Track Meet
Friday April 27th. A Marengo favorite where everyone can compete at the SPMS track in a variety of field and track events. Our school will compete against all other South Pasadena Elementary Schools. This is a wonderful opportunity to show good sportsmanship and Marengo pride!
Thursday, May 24th. Join the teachers and students as they open the doors to their classrooms and showcase all they have accomplished throughout the year.
Spring dance/PTA Service Awards
Friday, May 18th. A long-standing tradition at Marengo, students dance to honor our volunteers. The students perform dances by grade level culminating with the 5th graders dancing the maypole. The PTA will honor members for outstanding service and leadership.
Ongoing events throughout the school year
CULTURAL ARTS ASSEMBLIES
Outside groups come to perform for our students and expose them to a wide variety of cultural arts.
Parents provide opportunities for students to be creative during their lunchtime recess once a month (except December and April). All students are able to participate in making the project of the month.
Weekly Bulletin and Paw Print-
All “backpack” mail is sent home electronically at Marengo. Each week parents and teachers receive a Weekly Bulletin with a calendar of upcoming events. The Paw Print (a quarterly newsletter) celebrates our successes and passes along information to our families.
There are many volunteer opportunities at Marengo. In addition to the events listed here, there are places such as the classrooms, the library, computer lab, office and site beautification.
